Welcome and thank you for stopping by!  I am Suzie Cumming, the creator behind Suzielou.

I create vibrant original art and designs for licensing in a variety of different mediums from watercolours and acrylics to collage and photography.  I also make and sell a range of children's accessories, namely scooter bags and blankets in my SHOP and other online stores such as notonthehighstreet and etsy.

After completing my degree in Printed Textiles and Surface Pattern in 1998 I set up my own creative business.  I designed freelance for the interior sector specialising in designing rugs and furnishings as well as undertaking commissions for artwork and exhibiting my own digital artwork and textiles around the country.  I took part in shows such as The Affordable Art Fair, Top Drawer and Origin in London and The British Craft Trade Fair in Harrogate.  In 2004 I completed a Masters in Textiles and Fashion Design at Winchester School of Art and continued to show my work in galleries in London and the South of England up until the birth of my first child in 2007.

A few years after having my children I set up the brand Suzielou textiles.  I was craving more personal items for my children to enjoy, that something a little bit special and unique but practical too.  I dusted off the sewing machine and started prototyping bags and blankets and sourcing brightly coloured fabrics and designs for my mini explorers.  In 2011 I opened up my shop in etsy and in 2012 I joined notonthehighstreet selling my Suzielou textiles products.

Over the last few years I have worked as a Printed Textile Technician at Winchester School of Art (University of Southampton).  I currently live in Cornwall after relocating my family from Hampshire in 2018 and am pursuing my love for painting alongside managing Suzielou textiles.

Please feel free to contact me directly for any queries relating to my work, for commissions and licensing opportunities at design@suzielou.co.uk

Thank you for stopping by.

My artwork evolves through weekly practices in drawing, painting, collage and photography.  My eyes are wide open every day to the world around me, noting down colours and ideas for patterns as I go about my daily business.  It could be observations of the patterns within plants that put my inquisitive mind into action or the most simple, beautiful hint of one colour against another.  I see my work as a celebration of these 'magic moments' experienced and it is my hope that the viewer can take away with them a sense of wonder and joy I feel for the world around me.
